manual transmission shift linkage lubricant

In my 5spd 190e2.6, I experience some resistance when shifting into gears, and after some experimentation, I am convinced that the clutch totally disengages when the clutch pedal is fully depressed (and the brake fluid level has not changed).

I believe that the resistance comes from the shift linkage, at the base of the shifter. I am planning to apply some lubricant to this, but don't know what type to use (Lithium? graphite? or ordinary grease?).

Thanks in advance.
