when going 30-40mph, what gear should i be in?

hello friends - just a curious question that i've been wondering about. i do a lot of 35-40mph driving with frequent stops. should i leave the car in drive and let the transmission go through all of the gears, or is it better to drop it down into 3rd when i'm driving at these speeds and not put it into the last gear every time i start off and then have to stop again. i'm just wondering if one method or the other might prolong the transmission or put less wear & tear on it?? thanks for your comments!! -michael.

Leave it in ''drive''.
An automatic transmission will choose by itself in which gear the car is more comfortable. If it needs to be in a dirrerent gear, it will do it for you.
