Start, die, Start again, runs like a charm

My car developed a new problem, I'm not sure why, but I think something needs to be tweaked.

What happens is if I start the car after it's been sitting for a while, it will start and then the rpms will drop right down to zero and the car will die. If I start it again, it will pick up just fine. I'm suspecting an air leak somewhere in the idle control valve, and just not enough time for it to kick in on the first time when starting.

Can anyone suggest anything? It's a 1985 190E 2.3 8vlv

Also can anyone tell me if this car gives fault codes? I have been trying to find a "SURE" answer to this for a long time now.

xp
