How long till the battery dies?
I am going on a cruise next month for two weeks. I am wondering if the battery will die if the car is not started for two weeks. Also in the same tone how long can one leave a car without starting till the battery dies? The battery is brand new just 3 months old. In any case I am saying to myself just enjoy the cruise and on coming back if the car does not start take it from there. I hear there are lot of hassles once the battery dies.
Comments will be appreciated. |

It's likely that you could return a year from now and the car would still start.. To extend your battery life you could disconnect the battery.. Most newer cars drain the battery a little just to power the alarm, and other very low drain electronics.. For two weeks, or even two months, I wouldn't worry about it.. Cruise, and enjoy..

If two weeks causes a problem, it's because you've already got a problem; I've gone that long and longer with no trouble at all. I wouldn't expect a discharged battery in less than a couple of months or longer, depending on the load for electronics that run even at rest.
Have fun!

Thanks Jay and cbdo for your response. One less thing to worry and now I can just relax and enjoy.

If the battery is nice and clean, 2 weeks should be no problem. A dirty battery will allow current flow along the surface. Also all batteries will self discharge when not in use, but a healthy battery should make it 2 weeks.
