Can the elec. trunk closer be retrofitted to this car and how difficult and expensive would it be?
Thanks |

Hi Crankin, I'm not sure which trunk closing device you're talking about. All 220's are equipped with pneumatic "closing assist" for the doors and trunk lid. This feature is previously known from the W140. If you're talking about the feature that allows you to touch the big red switch to automatically close and lock the trunk from the open position, I think you're out of luck. It's a hydraulic system that uses it's own dedicated pump, as well as several other parts. I haven't seen any retro-fit info, so I doubt it's available as an add-on. Sorry

the hydralic closing system could be retrofitted but, it would not be pretty nor cheap. Harness, control units, switches etc... Not very fesable as the body CAN changed, EIS programing, DCM programming, added a single unit for the opening system, door harness, door panel, body harness plus the addition of the clynders, different trunk lid and lastly .. the pump down beside the battery. At best, probaly around 4 grand US and thats if the body harness did not have to be changed.
I know this aint what you want to hear but, I'd trade for one with that system before I would attempt to retrofit it. Cool feature tho'. Most of those have distronic as well as tire pressure monitoring. Joe
