'94 E320 Tach reading equals what MPH
How many RPMs are you turning at 35, 45, 55 & 65 mph?
My wife parked her '94 E320 outside last Saturday night while in PA and the overnight temperature dropped to 9 degrees. There must have been moisture in the speedo cable that froze. The cable snapped as soon as the car moved the next morning. The tach is working fine and we'd like to use it to give us an idea of what speed she is doing. The tire is the standard 195 65 R 15. I'm not going to mess with a new cable until it warms up some. Thanks |

Robby, when I go for a ride in the car tomorrow, I'll try and remember to jot these down for you.
Even though my car is a '93 300E (3.2), it has the same VIN #, chassis #, engine#, and tire size as yours.

Here you go Robby. Sorry for the delay:
25 mph - kind of hard because the car shifts from 3rd to 4th at this speed. It is at 1,500 rpm in 3rd gear, 1,200 rpm in 4th gear. 35 mph - 1,300 rpm 45 mph - 1,600 rpm 55 mph - 2,000 rpm 65 mph - 2,500 rpm 70 mph - 2,700 rpm 75 mph - 2,900 rpm

Thanks very much! I have another cold related repair. Yesterday the E320 slid on some ice making a right turn in a residential neighbor. When the front left tire caught on some dry pavement the left front swaybar support bracket snapped. I just ordered the part from MercedesShop. Cheers, Robby |

If it makes you feel any better, the same part on our '91 300E snapped. No, it wasn't particulary cold .... Haasman

I have snapped several of these swaybar brackets on my 2.3-16.
I had much heavier brackets using spring steel made for my Cosworth and then in addition to the bracket breaking, the frame supporting it also cracked. So, I'd have been better off just having the regular strength bracket snap. On the other hand it wasn't much work to repair the frame. It's interesting that on two consecutive days, I snapped the same bracket in the same spot in the same turn at Summit Point Raceway. When they broke they sounded like a shotgun blasts. |
