Wink Grandad's 124 running really hot; solved!

Grandad's 124 has been running hot for the last couple of days (till 110-120 deg!!!).

His 124 was recently overhauled (about 3 weeks ago) due to an overheating incident in Malaysia. After that, it was running fine till about 3 days ago.

Temp soared, losing water.....

Had a look at it this morning, and you know what...none of the fans were working.

Checked fuse #7 and it was blown. Renewed the fuse and it kept blowing. All this was happening when the negine temp is already around 85 deg, so i figured it could be a short in the fans.

Checked the aux fan and electro fan for shorts, but they were OK.

I looked over his wiring and it seemed that all his fans had been modified to run as soon as the car runs. However, all the fan temp sensors were plugged in.Hmmm.....

I removed the connections for the temp sensors for the fans, renewed the fuse and walah, when the engine is started, all fans are running!!!..

Fuse doesn't blow.

Then my grandad tells me that 2 days ago, another tech had taken a look at his car and had "did some stuff with the fuse and wiring"...

So this is the conclusion :

Workshop in Malaysia wires all fans to work full time and removes all connections to the fans' temp sensors (or else the current draw would blow the fans' fuse).Car is OK.

Couple of days ago, the fuse probably blew and needed replacing. However, the local tech refitted the sensors and replaced the fuse. He did not check whether the fuse blew again coz it was closing time when my Grandad arrived at his workshop.

And this was a Merc tech!!!What a dumbass!!!

So all it needed was a new fuse!

The fans are now running full time (which may not be good) but engine running temp is around 80-83 deg coz the local temp is about 30-32 deg C so I guess it's OK.

So whenever he runs into trouble with his 124, my Grandad will now call the Benz Brothers...

Geronimo!!!!!!
