Post windows door locks

The car is a 1973 MB 280SE 4.5. I cannot get th front windows to close completely. There is a 1/2 inch gap on top. Rough noise begins if I continue to hold the switch. Rear windows are OK. If related, the door locks do not operate autmatically. Is this an air control problem? Thanks for any info.

Windows are likely the regulators. Door locks are a separate problem, vacuum related. It will take some time to troubleshoot all of the vacuum leaks. With a MityVac and a few hours time you should be able to clean up all of the leaks at the line connections. Leak at the lock actuators will require new rubbers or new actuators.

Change the window regulator!

The last few teeth of the window regulator are probably gone. The window regulator comes separate from the motor, at least in my car.
Good luck!
