Flaring from 3-4

Hi,

I searched and found a lot of information about flaring from 2-3 but not much on 3-4. Are the fixes the same? One post mentiones a spring kit that can be installed to fix this problem. Is it the same kit for a 3-4 shift issue? Or a vacuum adjustment?

The car only seems to flare when fully warmed up and is inconsisten on when it will do it, have not been able to pinpoint a patern. Only that is will only do it at full operating temp, whent its cold it acts perfectly normal.

The transmission is only a year old and has Mobile 1 synthetic fluid it in. Think a filter change with non synthetic oil would help?

The car is a 90' 300CE-24, only about 20k miles since a complete rebuild using all MB parts. This is the second transmission since I have owned the car and it kills me to think its going again.

Any input you hvae is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Try crawling under the car and giving the pressure adjust at least a full turn and see if this improves it.

Was your vacuum mod valve replaced when it was rebuilt?

You could also discuss the problem with the company that just did the work for you.

Keep us posted,

Haasman,

Where is this "pressure adjust" on the transmission? Is there information about it on the service CD set? Is it easy to locate?

Not sure if the vacuum mod valve was replaced. I will call the tech tonight and ask him. Is this valve replacement a DIY thing, or does the transmission have to come out to install it?

The first transmission rebuild I had done, only lasted 3 yrs. Prob bad on my part to go back to the same guy for the second rebuild. Seems odd to me, that the car should be on its third tansmission with only 200k miles on it.. Thanks for your input, Ill call him and ask if it was replaced last time.

Thanks again, input is greaty appreciated.

The k2 spring kit applys to k3 however it might not fix it.Adjusting the modulator pressure might but, it'll firm up the shifts across the board. If this is the same thing that happened last time I'd be looking at the potential for a hanging apply piston or a worn drum allowing the steels to hang, which wears the clutches prematurly (never could spell) This could be a can of worms.
