Shift Knob replacement on a 190E

Wanted to replace my shift knob on a 1987 190E 2.6. It currently has the stock rubber now. I want replace it with a nicer wood/leather combo. Can I just remove the rubber knob, if so how? Or do I have to remove the shaft also?

You can get a conversion adapter from your local dealer or performance parts for around $20 and then put on any 95 and newer MB shift knob.

Regards,

Don
