Cold transmission is sluggish

I was used to my wife's 1989 190e. Operation of the transmission in this replacement 1993 190e is desidely different.
Tranny oil is clean and on the mark. Morning before the car comes up to temperature, the shift points are notably higher. Shift is smooth but on 25mph ciry streets, I almost have to get it up to 30 mph (which I dislike doing) to get it to shift downwards. I've read about the fill level changing as the tranny warms up and perhaps this is normal. Nothing else works suspeciously out of order. Normal? Time for me to forget it?
