2003 C230K Panoramic Sunroof

I recently purchased a 2003 C230K coupe with the panoramic sunroof. No matter how slow you are going there is a constant squeak of a rubber to glass/metal sound coming from the back edge of the sunroof. The sound goes away when the sunroof is opened in either of the two ways permitted, so it must be coming from the rubber gasket where it meets the glass panel. Is there a fix for this problem? Do I need to take it back to the dealer for adjustment or will silicone sprayed on the gasket resolve the problem? The squeak is constant, not just when you hit irregularites in the road, but steady as you go travel. The sound is driving me crazy and I would like to do something about it as soon as possible.

Bob the C-cpe has had that problem since intoduction last July. The sunroof "cartridge" is usually the problem. YOUR friendly local dealer should know about the problem & fix.

M. B. Doc your GREAT!!! and thanks for the quick reply. I called my Mercedes dealer this morning but they didn't indicate that they knew of this "common" problem. Does this take a long time to replace or is it something that can be done in an hour or two? I ask because I am waiting for them to schedule a service date to fix and if I have to wait to schedule a loaner car I will probably be waiting 5-7 days versus getting it in there early next week?

I will pass this information on to them since they usually seem rather clueless in diagnosing the problems in my 1995 C280 and 2000 ML 320. The "best" information I get comes from this Forum and that is one of the big reasons I own Mercedes. All cars have their problems, but they are not problems if you know how to resolve them.

Thanks again since you sure made me feel better about my new baby!

Bob

My dealer called this morning to let me know that they were aware of this problem and, like M. B. Doc said. involvers replacement of the sunroof "cartridge". They indicated that they have done this on several other C-Coupes to resolve this problem. My C-Coupe was manufactured in October, 2002 so it appears that the new design was still not implemented in production at that time. The new part should be in by Tuesday, so they plan to install new "cartridge" on Wednesday. They indicated that it would take the entire day to remove and reinstall. Hope this takes care of the problem since the squeak is continuous as you drive down the road. It is not like some intermittent squeaks that you hear when you hit irregularities in the road. It makes me wonder how Mercedes ever releases such a design into production before it is ready.
