Question 300E running ragged at warmup (maheath, are you there? )

I was interested to hear what you thought about the poor running condition I described in my "Temp sensor" thread. I've gone through the archives here and heard a lot of interesting arguments but I'd really like to have your thoughts on this.

Here it is again... It starts running ragged right after it gets almost to operating temperature. It hasn't stalled out yet but it runs ragged on acceleration but goes away after a few minutes if you keep the revs up. Then it settles down and doesn't do it again, only during the warm up period.

So what do you think Mike?
Thom

Well, the first thing I would say is don't confuse me with a real mechanic. There's plenty of them on this forum and I'm not one of them. Most of what I know in this area is from being subscribed to 3 mailing lists and reading this forum in an attempt to solve the problems of my own vehicles.

Unfortunately, instead of having an answer, I have more questions. First, what have you replaced recently? Second, does it start fine the first time of the day that it's started? How about after it's been sitting for just a few minutes after getting warm?

From your previous thread you mention that your ABS light comes on regularly, even though you replaced the OVP. Are there any other odd things happening?

Let me try to restate what I think you're saying. After you've started the car and the engine temperature is cold, it idles and runs fine, until it gets to about ? on the temperature gauge and then it idles rough and hesitates on acceration for a few minutes. You have to rev it to keep it from dying at idle. As soon as it reaches operating temperature (~87C), it idles and runs fine again.

I know that's annoying, my brother is a reporter and he does that to me all of the time. But it does help clarify things for me.

Mike,
I haven't replaced anything recently and the car always starts just fine from dead cold. It only does this after a few minutes then disappears. Hmmmmmmmmm...

P.S. I'm a Senior Member now. Somebody better respect me for this, after all, it only took me a year and a half to do it.

My uneducated guess is that this is a fuel injection problem (or one of it's inputs). You might try looking through old posts about the 02 sensor or the EHA valve. I know that stevebfl posted some extremely detailed testing procedures for the EHA earlier this month in this thread:

My LAST ovp/eha question, I promise!!!!

Hope this helps.

Question OK, a new clue

Continuing the long drawn out soap opera of my 300e and it's glitch...here's a new clue that might be relevant. When driving on bumpy roads the SRS light flickers, as if something is making intermittant contact. The ANTILOCK light still comes on with no set pattern but it's fairly certain that it will always come on. Like I said earlier, I've already replaced the OVP. Many thanks.
