W 140 Instrument cluster light bulb replacement

My '96 S420 needs a couple of the instrument cluster bulbs replaced (tach & clock). How do you get the cluster out? What bulbs are used? Thanks a bunch.

the cluster pulls out the front, benz has special tools for this or you may be able to make your own. do a search, there are a bunch of posts on this subject. good luck with your project.

I do it the backyard mechanic way. I cut two pieces out of a hanger from the dry cleaners, bend a very small tight hook on one end of each insert on the top corners and guide them down to the sides, then pull. The fit of the instrument cluster is tight so be careful you don't crack or scratch anything because it does take a firm tug.
Once you get it out, there are several different size bulbs. Make sure you have replacements before you start. I pick them up at the dealership...the autoparts stores that I've been to don't carry them...or you can get them at Fastlane if you can wait a day or two.
Good luck...
CK
