please help 1970 115 250ce
I have a friend who is trying to get his car back on the road again. His fuel pump has stopped workin. Mb main dealer here in the uk has quoted 600 pounds for a new one!!!
They only made this model with the strange bosch fuel system for 2 years. Can anyone help trace a cheaper one!! Thats alot of money for a fuel pump Any help would be grately appreciated Thanks...

Of course a "low pressure" electric unit could be used on that car & the manual pump blocked off.
Many older cars(ie;MG or Jag) used an electric pump with carburetors. I would think that 50 pounds would be a fair price.

I would think that car to be D-Jet. A pump from a D-jet 280SE 4.5 or early 450SEL should work just fine. It might even fit the bracketing.

250CE was a Euro Injected IL6 . 1968--72 production years.. |

Re: 250CE fuel pump
The 250CE (actually a W114 not 115 being a 6 cyl.) was also sold in Australia. It ran Bosch D-Jetronic like the early 280E (&CE) (W114), 280SE (&SEL) 3.5 (W108), 300SEL 3.5 (W109), early 280SE(&SEL), 350SE(&SEL) and 450SE(&SEL) (W116) and early 350SL (&SLC) and 450SL (&SLC) (W107). The fuel pump from any of these models would be suitable for the 250CE. Last time I checked the price here they were about $250 AUD.

he has taken the pump to a mb, and kms, and euro. They cannot match it at all. Totally different to any 280 type. If i can post a pic of it, it maybe helpful.

The point is that the system runs at low pressure; that is controlled by the system. Any pump capable of sustaining 30psi will accomplish the job. Volumetrically a V8 pump of that era will do just fine. It may require a new bracket and modified lines but nothing was very special in the way of lines in that day.

Most of these pumps could be taken apart for seal and brush changing... after prolonged sitting , they usually simply need some brush and rotor cleaning.. As SB said , a 2 bar pump w/check valve should be easily adaptable.. Here is some basic info. http://persweb.direct.ca/aschwenk/page4.gif |
