Roaring pulley on 190E

Hey guys, my 1991 190E 2.6 has 146,000 miles -- runs and looks great.

I have started to hear a "roar" in the pulley area -- my guess is that a bearing is going out. In the immediate vicinity on the belts are the alternator, water pump, camshaft, and idler pulley (tensioner).

I think I can rule out the camshaft and alternator. I'll check more closely tomorrow, but what do you think -- pulley or water pump? (One thing -- it doesn't seem to do it "all" of the time, it seems to get better then worse again. -- I hope that isn't an indication of the water pump -- thermostat starting/stopping the water flow).
