Sorry, but there is no such car as a 1996 E420 in the U.S.
1996 was the first model year for the W210 and was only available in E320 and E300 diesal. The V-8 came in the 1997 model. ------------------

Maybe the car's a '95? If so, that was the last year of the venerable W124 chassis, and has an M119 4.2 motor in it. Geat motor, great car, no real endemic problems to speak of beyond normal wear-and-tear stuff. That car's a highway star, with real tall gearing. There's a write up of that car in the "Featured Cars" section of this Site...check it out.

The 5-speed automatic in the 97 E420 is light years ahead of the 4-speed automatic that plagued the 95 and earlier E420. The W210 chassis does a bit better in keeping the temp sensitive M119 cool.
Hope this helps...Lee |
