1999 S430V - 46,000 miles - what to look for?

I am looking to lease a 1999 S430V with 46,000 miles. I am a little concered about entering in to a lease when there is no warranty on the car. Will not be leased from MB dealer so no Starmark available.

I will get it checked out by MB dealer but what things should I be looking for?

I have an '86 560SEL and know most of the things to look for but not sure on something in '99.

Thanks.

I don't think there is such a car as a 99 S430.

hey wood..

are you sure it's not a s420v?it's not that important anyway.i bought mine the same way-from a non-mb dealer but i took it to my local mb dealer and had them check EVERYTHING(even compression).it cost me 2-3 hundred but peace of mind was worth more than that.you may still have warranty left-get them to check for recalls and such.maybe p.o. never bothered with those.see what the dealer can do for free(warranty work) and maybe he'll cut you some slack on other repairs-now or in the future
p.s what are they(cars) going for on the left coast?

Well sure it's important. If it's a 99, fine then it's a 140 chassis.
If it's a S430, then the year is wrong and it's a 2000 S430 220 chassis. Maybe the production date or sales date was in 1999, but it's a 2000 model year? There would be different recommendations to be made for the 2 different chassis, very different cars.

my mistake

Sorry folks - it is definitely an 1999 S420V 140 chassis, not an S430 new generation.

Re price - it seems this is a sweet deal. Not sure why. It is a local west coast car, lease return from a local Dr. - no accidents, all records. If I play my cards right I could go pay cash for it tomorrow for about US$29,000 + local taxes. Black on gray leather. It is a good buy?

Just missed a '95 S320V two weeks ago with 17,000 miles - which sold for under US$24,000. Documented local miles.

In Vancouver we have quite a few Asian immigrants that have bought a house and settled with their families but spend most of the time conducting business in HK or Taiwan, etc. The cars sit in the garage most of the time. The problem is - all the S500s end up in the US market due to the exchange, they fetch a better price for premium cars. Very hard to find an S500 (140) unless it is an east coast car.

cheers.

I reckon all the W140 chassis cars are a great used car bargain as people are afraid of the maintenance costs.

I think they are a great buy.
