I just have to express my satisfaction about this forum.

1. I restored a 65 Mustang with my son and have belonged to a forum called Vintage Mustang Forum (VMF) for about 3 years now. The forums are with out a doubt one of the best things about the internet. The other side of the coin is that many a wife have lost their husbands (or visa versa) to forums like this. Don't ask how I know!!!!!
The 65 restoration was a 24/7 mind consuming project for 3 years. But because of what I learned doing the Mustang, maybe that is why the Mercedes is going so much easier ( actually its probably because the engineering is so much better).

2. The host program for this forum is much better than the one for VMF. Just as the Mercedes is much better to drive than the 65 Mustang, I still enjoy both cars and forums. VMF has a few things it could learn from this forum.
A. When you post a url link on VMF you have to bracket it and put {url] the site and then [/url} Its a real pain. This site is so much easier
B. You can attach a picture and its there. At VMF you have to have a host of your picture and then link to it. The picture will show up but its a pain.
C. Spell check would be nice!! For us lousy spellers. Or does it have that??????

3. Restoring a Mercedes is so much easier than an old Mustang. I jokingly say that the 2 primary tools of Mustang restoration are a sawzall and a welder. Don't ask how I know, but I now own both. The "restoration" of my 82 300TD is actually an enjoyable endever. Very few rusted bolts. Everthing seems to come off and install easily and without cussing and swearing. Except when you have to shell out some big bucks for some of the specialty tools. Yes I bought the Sir Tool Coil Spring Compressor, But I have already realized that it was well worth it.

Additionally the technical advise is just a good as the VMF advise. Some professional and some backed with years of experience. Of course you have to take all advise with a grain of salt and decide for yourself what course of action is best for your situation. My decision to "restore the 82 3000TD brought may opinions from, do it, to WHY an old Wagon. Each valid and each weighed for its merit. yes I am "restoring it", not to concours levels, but as a daily driver. Sound mechanical condition and the cosmetic items will be taken care of because we really love the car.
