Oil Change Infrequently Driven SLK
Last fall I change the synthetic oil in my '01 SLK320. Since then, the car's been driven only about 300 miles. Should I again chance the Mobil 1 synthetic oil in the spring to prepare it for a new driving season? Or, wait till fall again which will include roughly another 2000 miles of driving? I think FSS will alert me to an oil change after 1 year, regardless of miles.
Will the synthetic oil in the pan begin to breakdown over 5 months without much use? Thanks.

Assuming your car is still on warranty, you must follow the manufacturer's recommendation to keep your warranty in force. If the car sees low mileage accumulation you will reach the time limit before you reach the mileage or oil monitor limit, so check your maintenance schedule and change it when the time limit is reached, which is typically one year for modern cars that require synthetic oil.
After the warranty I would recommend an annual oil change, and if you store the car during the winter, change it just before storage. The clock really does't run on fresh oil in the sump. All of my cars see low mileage accumulation and receive an annual oil an filter change. Some are in service year-round, but a couple get swapped in and out of storage every six months ("winter" and "summer" daily drivers). Those two get their annual oil change just before storage.
