Clearing fault codes 94 E320

Greetings:

After completing the repairs on the 1994 E320 I would like to clear the fault codes and get the CEL off, before my emissions test.

I have tried the following:
- Pushed the button on the diagnostic connector for 2-3 seconds, the error code flashes, then I hold down the button for 6 to 8 seconds, repeat for the next error code.

I thought this was the procedure, but the error codes are not erased.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

John

You did it right.

Hold down the button for 6-8 seconds.

When you turn your key to the off position, and then re-start the car, the light should go off.

JC, sometimes it takes longer than 6-8 seconds. On my 95 E320 it can take as much as 30 seconds. Trial and error, just keep trying longer intervals until it clears. Do you have a code reader to obtain the other fault codes? There is a lot of information in that computer just waiting to help you!!

make sure you have ALL CODES cleared . . . then try it for 14-15 sec.

Code clear requires key off for 30 secs, key on for 10 secs and then start for at least 10 sec.

Also, Bosch module before 8/93 uses 5-6 sec button hold for clear.
Remember to wait 2 sec after each code retrieval flash before holding button down for clear ...

Also, on the Emmissions DM [ CE lamp ], don't expect a "1"
flash [ no code] immediately after code clearing. The DM requires several trips to check each sysytem before it will satisfy the memory....

Thanks for the clarification.

After turning the ignition off then back on after the clearing sequence, the codes were indeed gone and the CEL is off after starting the car. Now hopefully it will stay off for a while (I have not changed the wiring harness yet.)

That verifies pin 16 power

I've had cars from time to time that have a bad fuse connection at the 10A fuse on the OVP relay which would display various DTCs . . .

Sometimes removing the fuse on the OVP and cleaning the contacts and reinstalling with a light coat of dielectric grease will preserve the contact from oxidation, especially if you are near salt water . . .

If the CE comes back on, check for codes.... however, the CE should not come on w/key OFF ...if it does , it is receiving bat votage from somewhere...possible short in harness or possible OVP quirk...
If so, I would check the part# on OVP to see if it has been up-graded [arhieves again]. Only other source I can think of off hand
[ don't have schmatic here ] is fuse for pin 16 at Diagnostic box..
[ but doubt it]
I believe you are getting No code flash at box BC you have cleared the codes and 1 flash does not apper yet [ system has not completed test]

I used Arthur Daltons code reader and the unit would not work unless the enine was RUNNING. With key ignition on, I received no LED. I have Code 5, Code 11 off pin 14
