E320 Cabriolet Dome Light Timer

Hello all. I'm new to the forum and a big fan of MB. My 1995 E320 cab has an issue with the dome light not shutting off. The problem has happened before and disconnecting the battery corrected the problem last time. But not this time. I've pulled the #9 fuse to turn off the light for the time being but also have no radio now. I've reviewed the service manual and could not find any reference to where the control unit is located. The sedan shows it to be in the center of the windshield header. If this is correct, how is the dome lightcover removed. I suspect scews under the rear view mirror but cannot determine how to remove the mirror. I imagine it is spring loaded and will pop off, but am concerned about damaging it if I am wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

The TIMER CURCUIT is in the DOME LIGHT ASSY.

FIRST CHECK the DOOR SWITCHES . . .

It was the door switch.

The problem does appear to have been the drivers side door switch. I had initially discounted a door switch problem because the seatbelt arm, the one that hands you the belt, functions properly when the door is closed. I guess there are multiple contacts because I moved the switch around a bit and the lamp timer seems to work properly now. I'll have to take it apart and clean/wd40 it...

However, I noticed the rear view mirror could use a little tightening. How is it removed?

Thanks,
Victor
