Modify 124 trans to start in 1st gear

Just got a new book, E-Class Owner's Bible from Bentley Publishers. This is Stu Ritter's book.

It says,"...valve bodies from 1989 through 1991 can be modified to have a first gear start every time..."

We have a '90 and a '91, both bought used. The '91 always starts in first gear. I had assumed it was that way from the factory but evidently not.

I'd like to know how to modify the valve body on our '90 so it will also start in first gear instead of second.

Anyone know how this is done?

Thanks

Check with www.bergwerks.com. I have the electronic first gear start module for my car but they also do the valve body mod.

Matt.

Thanks, I checked with bergwerks but their electronic box is only for the later model V8s.

However they do offer to modify your valve body if you send it in. Cost is $300.

No one knows the details of how this is done?

Thanks

swap the spring to the other side of the 1-2 command valve. If you by the ats book, look in the valve body breakdowns for both a first gear start and second gear start car, locate the spring difference.

brewtoo,

I was reading your post and just wondered whether you did this modification or not.(swap spring for 1st gear start).
