Carbon deposit on Injectors

Hi,

Few weeks ago I took out the fuel injectors from my '88 260E (150K miles) to ckeck. I noticed that all had black deposit (carbon) on them, on top, the part that stays in cylinder head. I cleaned them with Carb Cleaner and put them back on. Does this mean my car runs rich even though the spark plugs are clean?
The injectors work ok otherwise.

Thanks.

Are you sure it was carbon and not varnish? When the car is shut down, the heat soak bakes on any residual fuel left on the injector. With time this builds up as a deposit. I would think you saw a normal condition.

Thanks Kestas,

I guess it was varnish. I thought it was normal at first until I took out an injector from my '86 300E (150K miles) and found it unbeleiveabily clean and spotless. What a difference!
