Blown Tranny......!

I recently blew the tranny in my 190E 89' 2.6 175k+. I was on the hwy going to my first day of college when I heard a grinding sound then kaboom im on the side of the road tranny fluid went everywhere. I'm looking at buying a tranmission soon.

My question is what serious damage to could have come out of this, and what all should I inspect. I'm definetly taking it to my mechanic I just want to know what's going on.

I'll prob have one of my buddies come over and help me take out the tranny to save money. I've changed a couple tranny's for trucks and foreign cars but no expert to say the least.

Any advice would be great
