June Allison 190E
Hello All. It rains Alot on the Oregon Coast. My trunk lid is filling with water, fills the inner panel where the license lights are. Holds quart or better. The trunk is bone dry via a new trunk w/strip. Question: I notice wires running thru the hollow pass side trunk hinge. Where and/or how do the rear sunroof drains exit? Could water be running thru the hinges? Or should I just buy a case of DEPENDS!
Thanks; Richard |

Well that's a new one!! I have had water in just about every place it shouldn't be on my 123 , but it never got into my trunk lid. I'm not sure on your car but the sunroof rear drains on my 123 are out the C-pillar vents.I wonder if there is a way for it to get into the lid from the edges, the water is channeled around the trunk lip and might make its way through a rust hole or seam ??? You might try pouring water only on the trunk seal area and see if it's coming in that way ? Isn't it fun living on the rainy west coast, we don't tan ,we rust

I have also had the same thing. I am suspecting that the leading edge of the trunk lid does not seal well. I need to do the dollar bill test: Put a bill in between the lid and the seal, close the lid and see if there is a tugging on the bill. If so the seal is making contact, if not, either the seal or the lid need to be fixed.
I got this one from an appliance repair man regarding refrigerator door seals. Keep us posted, Haasman

Depends
Thanks for responding. I like the $ bill idea for checking the trunk lid w/strip. However, in my case the w/strip isn't suspect as water would find it's way into the luggage compartment. Mine is Bone Dry :-) The water gets into the lid while the car is parked uncovered outside; thus, non - moving. I will check out the rear vents as they are placed above the deck lid hinges. If the drains are plugged, the water has to go somewhere. Interior side pillars are dry on both sides of the rear seat. I will place some cotton in the upper inside openings of the hinges as that is where water could enter from the vent/sunroof drain area. It's been raining fairly steady for the last week. Wish it would stop raining so things would dry enough for me to pour some water & watch!
Thanks Again! Richard |

All 190 trunk lids fill with water. I though it was a design feature.
