Asd - 300ce-24v

I am after information on the ASD option. When I tried to have the ASD fixed the serviceman advised that the ASD control unit was missing and would need to order a new one from Germany. The problem is when I have inquired about a replacement the cost has been anywhere from $1200 to $4000 Australian dollars and some want to know the part number which I cannot advise as the part is not there. Shop manuals are not sold in Australia so can anyone tell me where the control unit should be located and why the price range?
