I still can't seem to figure out why I can't get my car to idle properly. It is a 1976 230.4 with a stromberg 175 CD carb which I just had rebuilt except for the auto choke. It sputters and dies when I come to a stop in "D" and I have to keep my foot slightly on the gas to avoid stalling wherever I go. Other than that it handles quite well under normal driving conditions. I have noticed that both in "P" and at a stop light, the engine seems to make the sounds of a washing machine (wsh, wsh, wsh ..) as the idle revs up and slows down. I have reason to believe that it is something that is sticking or not functioning properly.

I'm hoping someone could suggest something because my mechanic seems to be getting frustrated with my car and doesn't exactly seem too "thrilled" to see me again!
