5cy Turbo D, Too much Turbo Whistle?
Quote:
Sooo anywhoseee... I have a stack exhaust like a big rig and no muffler. Just a small silencer. This thing certainly sounds to whistle from the exhaust stack and not inside the engine housing if that's what ya mean by intake whistle. Might I have an intake air leak? 83-84?? 5cy Turbo D

Tire up and down from da roof.
Well... One..... I dont get flat tires (crossed fingers) Two.... I've been a gymnastic coach for nearly 30 years... Im use to throwing things up in the air flippen them around. Least I dont have to catch this one I only have to throw it up there. . . . . . .. . . . . . . YEAH RIGHTTTTTtt.. if ya beleave that I got a bridge in CA I want to sell ya. Actually spare is inside right now. That pic is what it looked like before it left Germany. I have no clue how he got that thing up and down. I plan doing a small engine hoist looking thing that attaches to the roof with a come along attached to it for lifting it. Only going with a come-along over say a boat crank cause the come-along can be handy for any neccissary McGiver moves that I need to do to save my arse when running from the bad guys. Now back to the regular scheduled program.... My turbo does whistle increasingly as it winds up and it decreases as it winds down but I can hear it stay wound up and whistleing when the RPM's are high enough.. Is this a problem?

...on my 1991 300D 2.5. It turned out to be one of the connections for the crossover pipe which was not tightened properly. The gap allowed just enough air to escape to produce that incredible sound. Once i tightened all the bolts on the crossover pipe, the sound went away. I believe there is a gasket at the joints to help seal the system. Fortunately, tightening alone fixed my problem.
Hope this helps. Bbach7 1991 300D 2.5 Turbo
