I have a 1984 300SD with 232,000. So far, it
has been the very best Mercedes I have ever owned. I had a 87 300SDL and a 91 350SDL. Both of these cars are GONE;the engines were no where near the durability of the SD. I had head problems with the 87 SDL and oil consumption problems with the 91 350. The 87 had about 105,000 on it;the 350SDL had only 65,000!!!!!!! Anyway, the other day the GAS PEDAL broke from behind...where the rod attaches to the rubber/plastic pedal. Has anyone had this happen? What is involved in repairing???? Thanks in advance for your advice. This is FANTASTIC site!!!!!!!!!!!! |

The same thing happened to my wife's 1983 300SD at 348,000 miles. These cars just don't hold up like they used to. The replacement pedal cost $20.00 and took about 20 minutes to install. It's pretty simple and obvious once you see the new pedal.

Thanks for information about the "pedal cure"
I will get one this week!!! I too hope my 84 SD will get 348,000 miles. Seriously, this car is the best I have ever owned. The only repair I have done this vehicle is to replace the vaccum pump at 190,000. It has the same air conditioning compressor, no problems with the brakes (same master cylinder), no climate control problems, no cruise control problems...Besides the vaccum pump and the current accelerator pedal breaking, there have been no other needed repairs. It has to happen soon...I really have been waiting for several years now for everything to "give up"...Maybe not. Those who own the 300SDL and 350SD/SDL, if you not owned a 85 or earlier diesel, you do not know what a drastic difference there is in the dependability of the earlier diesels compared to the 86+ models...Again, thanks for everyones response!!! ------------------ Richard Greene 1963 MB 190SL 1984 MB 300SD 1988 MB 560SEL 1962 Jaguar XKE OTS 1983 Jaguar XJ6 VP |

Wait, wait, check with MB. That gas pedal may still be under warranty. Anyone who gets 500k out of a 300SD, gets a new gas pedal for free
Oh well a little humor ain't a bad thing, after all, the BIG DIG in Beantown is gonna get fixed up real soon (more humor). Have a great day... ------------------ Jeff L 1987 300e 1989 300e 1987 BMW 325 |
