I have a 1990 300CE 24v Automatic (UK model) 152.000miles.
Over the last few months I have noticed that when it changes up from 2nd to 3rd it hangs and revs increase for a couple of seconds before 3rd engages. This is not to too bad at soft accelerations but when I accelerate hard the engine revs up really high (6000+) before 3rd gear engages.
Changes from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th are perfect.
Does anyone have any ideas.

I have the same car, BUT, the only idea I have for you at that many miles is, it looks like you'll be needing a rebuild. When the trans starts slipping like that, either low on fluid or internal work needed.........Would like to hear what you find.

Try the accumulator kit, but in the mean time, stop driving the car! Driving the car with slipping clutches like this is doing serious damage. Would you drive around in a manual transmission car and allow the clutch to slip like this?

300CE 24V 1990 Automatic US the revs are 4000rpm at 80mph is this normal in top gear ?

my 300CE -24v is at approx 3650-3700 rpm at 80mph

Finally had a chance to get up to 80mph.

On my car, 80mph = 3400rpm
