I know I know it says premium unleaded gas all over the place. Gas prices are getting pretty high and its not much fun...I have used both premium and regular gas and see no difference. it runs perfect on the low octane. I hate to be cheap on stuff like this but is it nreally neccessary to keep from having problems or only if I have problems already with ping and so forth?

Rob:
This subject is covered often by posts on this site, but once again - octane is a rating of the quality of gasoline which resists pinging. Higher octane gas does not have more energy in it, and will not make your car run better, nor farther, nor with less maintenance. All it does is keep your car from pinging under load, such as when you mash the throttle or are going up a hill. If your car runs great on 87 RON, stick with that. If it pings under load, switch to the higher grade. Why spend money on something that gives no benefit?......Andras |

Thanks Rob:
However, I think that I am probably as old as your Dad, and I just report my experiences and my knowledge, gleaned from many years of watching others struggle with "myths" and misinformation. Glad I could help. Keep all the cards and letters coming.......Andras |

Heh Heh...you are probably right my man. I'm not too dense for an 18 year old huh? I lack the experience. All I can go on is what i have seen and read. Good to have people out there to help me.

A recurring repsonse in this forum is don't believe everything you read/hear, and this applies to everyday life as well! Gas additives, oil additives, air filters, octane, etc. have all been discussed at length in here and boil down to, for the most part, advertising companies telling you what you want to hear (more power or less engine wear). The people that respond in here have been down more roads than most of us ever will and see right through most of the crap out there - hats off to you as there's nothing like an informed consumer!
