Left side lower then right?
Just noticed that the drivers side rear is lower then then the pass. side. I just spent 20 min. looking around and every thing looks normal.Could it be a shock, a spring or something else? The air in all tires are correct as per mb spec.

My 1994 Euro C180 had this pretty obvious lean on the front right driver's side and it was quickly levelled by my techie who replaced the worn rubber spring pads on the right side to exactly the level of the left side. They come in various levels, so you have to sort this out by trying and some measuring. Maybe replacing all on the front to level out would be better than one side only. This should be a cheaper alternative to changing the springs which will have to come with all new pads anyway and may also be time for new shockers too!

Look under the car in the area of the rear jack point. There's a salt shaker shaped flange, round end to the rear, about 10" long by 6" wide. Above the round end is the rear subframe mount. One per side. As the subframe mount collapses, that side of the car sits lower to the ground. If one side collapses more than the other, the car lists.

SIXTO:I just jacked up the rear of the car and looked for the salt shaker thing you discribed and all i can is a very large U shaped thing that the shock is mounted to.I also can see a plastic part just behind the rear wheel back plate. It has a 1/2" bar attached to it which runs up and across the rear of the car behind the gas tank and attaches to the same assy. on the other side.When i realeased the jack, i measured the hight of the rear bumper,and now both sides are the same.Before the drivers side was 3/8" higher.??????

You're about 12-18" too far back. The subframe mount is right by the port into which you insert the lifting arm of the change-a-flat jack. The salt shaker thing is a flat flange with three stright edges and a rounded remaining edge. Two bolts on the front edge, one big bolt up the middle of the round part.
The car will sit higher after you unload the springs. It'll settle after you drive it. Sixto 91 300SE 87 300SDL 83 300SD

SIXTO: O.K i found the salt shaker thing.Center bolt is in the center of the round part of the shaker and the other two bolts are screwed into the bottom of chassis. If i put my jack under the part just to the rear of the round salt shaker, and remove all three bolts will this reveal the rear sub frame mount for replacement without the car falling down?

The first thing is to check the clearance between the round part of the salt shaker and the rubber mount above it. Two things to check -- evenness of the gap around the circumference of the mount and the height of the gap. In my 91 300SE, the gap around the left mount is not even and the car lists to the left. If the round part of the salt shaker is pretty much in contact with the cup part of the subframe into which the mount fits, the mount is pretty much collapsed. I don't know what the spec is, but less than 1/4" is getting thin IMO.

Oh, if and when you decide to work on the subframe mounts, support the trailing arm somewhere under the spring or shock mount or forward of that location before you remove the big bolt. It's not mandatory since most likely that end of the subframe mount will drop a half inch without you prying on it, but it might drop and hurt you, and that's not worth the risk. You can remove the support when the big bolt is out to then manhandle the subframe mount so you can press out the old mount and the bump stop above the end of the subframe.

The third member of the subframe mount family is the mount behind the differential. Thomaspin's website has a link to instructions for replacing the subframe mounts but no photos.

This is a photo of the left side subframe mount in the 91 300SE. This car lists to the left. You can see how the gap is uneven. I don't know if this is a cause or effect of the list but my guess is that it's the cause. Could be that some fool (other than this fool) raised the car by the subframe mount. I hope the nut isn't deformed in a way that a new bolt will go in cocked as well.
