Hi i don't know if this is a stupid question or not but my trunk light doesn't work and i tried changing the bulb and it still doesn't work. What can be the cause of this? Is something broken or is there some switch? Is there a fuse that's blown? I don't notice any other electronics in the car that don't work. Thanks for your help!

Car is a 1987 300E

Phil

Phil, there is a switch on the lip of the trunk lid to the left of center. You should be able to see the actuator pin sticking out. If you don't see it, then if I were you, that's where I would start looking.

Some of those trunklid-mounted switches have the capacity to be left engaged...in other words, to stay in the depressed or light off position. Also check the wires plugged into the back of the switch....that's what my problem was. When doing so, though, be prepared to break at least several of the small clips that hold the trunklid lining in place...no biggie, they're very cheap.

I have seen the wiring fail many times. Check for power at the light. You should have power on one side all of the time.

I agree with the broken wire theory. The flexing of the wires near the hinge takes it's toll.
