congrats to this great site.

my fan blower is making intermittent weird noises. i've read somewhere this might be caused by clogged a/c drain. if true, where can i find my a/c drain?

M.B.DOC 03-31-1999 08:07 PM

edna,
On the model you own the a/c drains won't cause any noises from the blower. If you hear noises only with the blower on, then the motor is the most likely cause.

Usually a high pitched squeak can be heard when the bearings in the blower motor are on their last leg.

please clarify: replace bearings or fan motor, or both? can you just replace the bearings? thanks ed

Hi Edna,
I had the same problem with my 89 420sel, a chirping noise. I don't know how easy it is to remove the blower on the 300E, but it's a 5 minute job on the 420.
If you can remove it, put a couple of drops of automatic transmission fluid on both bearings, and let it seep in. Unless the bearings are really gone, it works like a charm and should last another 100,000 miles.
Make sure to plug it back in and test it for a bit, before you put everything back together! If it still chirps, add a couple more drops. I had to do it twice.
Hope it works,

thanks for the tip Tom. i'll gather some courage to take it apart, if not i'll just let my mechanic do it for me. thanks a lot, eh!! edna vancouver, b.c.

Glad to help, eh!!
I did my motor two months ago, and it hasn't chirped since, and many have had one work for years.
Let me know if it works.

Edna, the blower in your car isn't as easy to get to as the model the other person has described. It takes Approx. 2 hrs. to replace, when you hear noises like you have described you need a new motor.

Edna, on your car only install a new motor because of how difficult/expensive it is to get to. (only use an O.E motor...for I have seen problems with aftermarket ones.)

I have the same problem as edna has..or has had...my blower motor sqeaks and chirps but the blower seems to be fine, the speeds are fine also, and the blower chirps even if i have the heat/AC at the off "O" position....do i have to replace it?.....or can i lubricate it somehow?...

Benzmac 03-02-2000 09:26 PM

Agron, what car do you have?? You may want to put it in a signature that you can attatch to the end of your writing.

Im sorry Mac....I have a 1989 300E W124 chasis...this problem is very annoying...it sqeaks on and off, even the climate control is at the off "O" position...my mechanic said it gonna cost $420 bucks to put a new one in, but is there a way i can lubricate it?...it works prefectly fine--except for the chirping...help me Mac

metricman 03-03-2000 10:00 PM

agron80:
if your blower motor runs with the pushbutton in the "O", off position, then the blower regulator is bad. On the 124 chassis (300E) the blower regulator is mounted underneath the blower motor, which is mounted underneath the wiper linkage. I have seen alot of both the motor and the regulator fail, and there is no way to diagnose until you pull it all of the way apart. A seized or very stiff motor will cause the regulator to go bad. Seen it many times.

Agron80 03-04-2000 01:50 AM

So this means that the regulator is bad--not the motor?...can I replace the regulator only? or do i have to replace both of them? or vice versa?...

I just wanted to make clear that the chirping noise is there when the climate control system is at the off "O" position...the blower is off, but the chirp is still present...
