Seat support

I have a 300SD in great condition but...the driver's seat springs are WEAK....sinking. The MB dealer quoted approx $800 to fix the seat plus approx $300 to fix the cables that control the seat tilt. This seems like too much cash for a seat...

The extent of my vehicular knowledge is from listening to CarTalk; i.e. real practical experience is nil...but I gotta start somewhere...

Has anyone replaced springs or cables? What is the level of difficulty?
