First, the answer is no, you don't have to replace the entire cable, you can just replace the thermistor at the tip (do a search out "outside temp"). Save yourself the trouble, trace the cable to the fuse box where there is a connector underneath the fuses - I believe the wires are green and brown. Connect a 3k ohm resistor (get at radioshack) to the end that goes back to the cluster and you should get a reading. If you don't, the problem is somewhere else...

David, did you just replace the thermistor (tip) on your dad's car? Keep me posted, I also have a blank display. Jim's500E, could you please fax mr that page also at 203-698-2277. Jsmith, I can't find that thermistor part, do you have a part number? Thanks, all.

Thanks Jim for faxing me that page. Apparently the tip cost $50 at discount and one has to solder it on, $320 for the display! Yikes, it looks like something one should find 2nd hand at the local junkyard.
