89 260E Diagnostics With No LED

got intermitent Check Engine light during start-up, and
would like to retrieve message via diagnostic outlet
located above battery. checked archives but my car
has no LED light to flash for messages. it only got tiny
holes for probing tool, i guess. any help would be appreciated.
