A/C Help

I have a '92 300SE (W140) and all of a sudden the A/C isn't working (it worked fine on saturday).

How do i determine if the Climate Control (small digital temp windows with push button selectors and a center dial for the fan apeed) or the compressor is the cause of the problem?

Thanks in advance.

sounds like the dreaded w140 evaporator failure. Big $$.

I can't imagine a leaking evaporator causing the system to immediately stop cooling. A leak typically cools less and less over a period of time. There are about fifty different things that it could be besides a leaking evaporator.

Start by seeing if the clutch is kicked in. If it is, you need to connect gauges and check the pressures and look at the sight glass. If not, you need to check fuses, and trace the clutch circuit.

Good luck,

Ok more info. The little red lights on the controls still illuminate and the air flow does move based on what selections are made. However, the air is hot and the clutch on the compressor is not turning.

Thanks.
