'77 450 sel: Fuel System question: Steve or Benzmac, please

Friends:

Have '77 450 SEL, german model, well-maintanied with only 63K.

My question: Recently, I've noticed that the gas cap is not as tight as it used to be. actually, is somewhat loose. Not loose loose, but not tight either. I don't think it's quite flush.

fuel spillage is not an evident issue. (None evident).

Is the tightness of the cap of any relevance to the pressurizing of the fuel system and fuel delivery?

Please advise. Many thanks!!

And....

I have a 1973 450 SEL. No, the fuel cap as nothing to do with fuel pressurization. As long as it doesn;t leak when full you are fine.

Cheers,

Thanks, but allow a follow-up, please:

Can a VERY dirty or perhaps clogged fuel filter create any hesitation problems on heavy acceleration?
