My oil Pressure warning light in my (W124) 1985 300D goes on and off every now and then. I check the engine oil and it's like half way to LOW. What does it mean when the light goes on for a while and then off again? Does this mean low pressure? Low Oil level? Or do I have to stop the car coz' it might just die on me. Thanks! Francis |

Your gauge should tell you if the pressure is low. Oil level sensor may have a bad connector or is malfunctioning. I believe it's attached to the driver's side of the sump. Take a look.

Thanks! What I also need to know is when your OIL PRESSURE SENSOR is OK what will cause it to light up? LOW OIL LEVEL?

Mercedes only have a (low) oil level sensor. Ain't got no oil pressure sensor light.
Up until a few years ago they had an oil pressure gauge, but that has been removed and replaced by malfunction indicator display in the instrument cluster...at least here in the USA. ------------------ |

Oil level light comes on when sensor in the sump gets uncovered for a programmed period of time. Gauge should give you the oil pressure. You can have good pressure but still have a LOW oil level. The two are not directly related. Oil level light tells you that something needs attention..
