Oil Sensor on 1994 C-220

I've developed an oil leak which I found yesterday is coming from the oil sensor. I removed the sensor wire and saw the oil is coming from what appears to be a rubber grommet leading into the pan. I turned the sensor clockwise to see if it was screwed into the pan but it didn't seem to tighten up. I reconnected the oil sensor wire and started the engine to see if it was still leaking. I'm sure it probably is. Now the Oil Warning light stays on. Why??? What is my next step. Do I need to replace that entire assembly? Do I have to remove the exterior piece that is bolted onto the oil pan to replace the sensor? Thanks for you help!!

you have to unscrew the twp bolts to remove the oil level sensor, then remove the O-ring
