The front passenger window stopped working on my 81 300SD. The light on the switch still works and all other power windows also work. There are no noises when I push the button, luckily the window is stuck in the closed position. I thought I'd hear some warning noises before something like a power window mechanism failed but I never heard anything. Any advice on where to start looking? Thanks in advance.

SAme thing happened to my SD, wound up being the window motor. Mine was stuck in the down postion on a 105F day. It was a very hot couple of day I can assure you. There are other things it can be. I would do a "WINDOW" search first on this site, then see a Tech.

If you have any wiring knowledge whatsoever, you can verify if the motor is good or not. On my '85 300D, I took the power going into the switch and jumpered it directly to the motor. Be advised that you need to just momentarily touch the motor wires to hear if the motor starts to drive. The way the motor works is +12v is provided to the motor to make window go down. To make the motor drive the window up, the polarity of the +12v is reversed. If your window is currently up, you wouldn't want to continuously drive the motor to put the window up. This may cause the motor to burn out or strip some gears, etc. So by just momentarily providing the +12 you will at least hear the motor start, therefore letting you know the motor is OK.

Just wanted to add that if you do attempt to verify motor operation, be careful when you jumpering power to the switch so that your +12V jumper doesn't short to anything (I keep some electrical tape over the end until I'm ready to touch it to the motor lead).
