A 300TD AC system in a 65 Mustang????????

I was taking the AC system apart on the 300TD. Got everthing in the engine compartment out of the car. Compressor, Reciever/Drier, Condensor and the hoses. My son askes if any of this still works. I let him know that it was working when I stopped driving the car. And it should work but I wanted to rebuild everything so I didn't have to worry about it as a daily driver. I woudl also like to improve the system (R-12) by using a parralell flow condenser.
He askes if everthing would fit into the mustang. I thought about it and figured---- yes. He will buy the underdash unit form ACKITS.COM for $230 and well get a new R/D. Have the hoses made up at a local hose shop here in DFW. This should work----shouldn't it???
I found no trash in any hoses etc. So I figure the compressor was not falling apart. (did the R134 conversion wrong about 350 miles ago, and 1.5 year ago) We will use all Meredes specified parts--R/D manifold connection for the R4 etc. The hoses will be simple and new. And well fill it up with the recommended amount of oil and R12.
Well what do you guys think???

Mounts for the R/D---easy.
The hose shop is great and will work with me on the hoses--well need the R4 style connecting manifold.
The evaporator expansion valve blower motor is a all in one unit that is complete when bought.
Well check a couple of junk yards for chevys for the R4 compressor mount. Or well weld something together.

Yes, this would work, especially since you will stay with R12. The problem will be mounting the R4 on a Ford. If you are willing to weld up a mount then that can be made to work as well.

That said, it would seem to be much easier and be more original for the Mustang(I am assuming this is an early Mustang) to find mount and drive pieces at the salvage yard for a York Compressor. The Yorks are much cheaper and simple than the R4, and very easy to find, inexpensively, in quality rebuilt form. The Yorks do not convert to 134 well, but work great in an R12 system.

The mount from any old Ford V8 or 6(whatever is in your Mustang) should be easily found at the bone yard along with the idler pulley and drive pulley.

Mixing and matching individual components is no big deal as long as you have adequate condensor size for the application. In the fifties, my Dad pieced together air conditioners from all different components when retrofitting into the cars of the time.

BTW, it sounds like you're moving right along on your TD a/c.
