If you're in the US, it's value is whatever you say it is. It's a non-US spec car with limited following. Check prices of 280CEs in comparable condition and consider that there's more demand for a 280CE. You might even compare it to a 300CD turbodiesel that'll probably outrun a 4-speed 230C.

I would be skeptical of anything over $2K, though.

Not sure if tone carries through the internet. I'm not saying to dismiss the car. If you like it, go for it. Just be aware that it's probably not something you can turn around sell quickly or for what you invest in it if the need arises. I'm sure it's a wonderful car devoid of the ammenities MBUSA thinks Americans can't live without.
