Technology.
Ok, while we are on the subject of the 210 lets get a bit further into 'em. As in subsystems.
01 210 car. E-call BAS ESP ASR Fiber optic audio, c-tel and such Side bags, curtian bags, "smart SRS" EIS w/ ir and rf ata and central locking. "dual zone" (to steal gms term) ACC w/ smog sensor and activated charcoal filtration one touch up and down including the sunroof. full size spare roadside Now, these are just off the top of my head "gizmos" what else can you think of and what does BMW and the Lexus offerings have? Joe

Ok, but we all agree that FSS is a bad idea right?
My point is simple, the comparable offering from Lexus is front drive and much lower tech. I get the feeling that with the exception of the rear regulators dropping like flies, the 210 car carries about 3X the technology of the ES300. Joe

I don't have any problems with any of the gadgetry AS LONG AS IT WILL CONTINUE TO WORK. I have been pleasantly surprised by the reliability of the ELECTRONICS portions of the gadgetry on the 210 car I used to have, the 124 car and 203 cars that I now drive. Maybe I should knock on wood when I write this.
I don't understand why you don't like the autodimming rearview mirrors. I drive a LOT at night and find them very useful. Have a great day, |

I just can't wait to have to fix the variable radar controlled cruise controls. I already have done a number of what BMW calls parktronic, collision avoidance system problems. having a body shop you just can't avoid collision avoidance problems.
Of course there could be pages of software/hardware features to stability programs including four wheel traction systems with yaw sensing. Upshift delays due to curve recognition programs communicated between ESP and ETC. Downshift strategies for cruise control in hills. it is often more than just the pieces. With the monitoring that is happening every year they think of some new way of using it. Such as low tire pressure systems that use already available wheel speed signals to understand that one wheel is smaller and by definition low on air.

Larry, I like having the option of Day/Night position on the older mirrors. I can see the license plate of the car behind me at night in CT. using daytime mode. Therefore I know if it is a State Trooper behind me or not (because they have predictable plate numbers).

Although this one was not on 210s, it's on 211s and up: ABC. Great idea....I just hope the hell it holds up. Can you imagine someone purchases a car like that in 10 years and it starts having problems with the same frequency as self leveling in 126 560s (the equivalant technology for the time I'd say)?? You'd probably have to take out a separate loan to fix ABC.

Yes, it would be great if MBUSA would make a stripped down model available here with the engine sizes that we like in the US, but without all the gadgetry that they put on ALL US models.
Have a great day, |

Point taken... But to me, that is just one more possible unnecessary headache to worry about. I'll just stick by my antique spring/shock setup

Hey Steve, get this. On MB's with Distronic cruise control, the radar unit has to be adjusted after a wheel alignment is performed! If the vehicle's thrust angle is changed it affects the aim of the unit. Two years ago MB flew me from N.J. to California for three days just for a training course on Distronic radar adjustment!!! Concerning tire pressure monitoring, which manufacturer uses wheel speed/size to determine pressure loss? MB uses pressure sensors inside the wheels ( they're actually the tire valves ) which transmit temperature and pressure data to antennae in each wheel well. As far as technology goes I have a nick-name for my SDS lap-top. I call it the "Digital Dipstick".

Is GPS nav available in the 01 210? I don't mean that dashtop module like I see on early MLs, I mean a nice integrated in-dash unit.
