Question used the search...but how hard is it to remove W202 dash?

Ok...
so, my 1994 C280 no longer cools. Have a bad feeling that A/C leak is in the evaporator coils since there are no oil spots or leak-dye marks on the exterior A/C Components. I hear that the evap coils can only be reached by removing the whole dash panel. Are there any instructions on how to do this? (I think the cd's arent out yet on this model?) and how hard is it to fix this??? I have tools and have worked on other A/C systems... but not the one on this car...The shop is asking btwn 4 to 5,000 just to fix. total rip off!!!!!!!!!!! any comments???

Whoa!

Hold on a minite, while I'm not the Guru on MB I damn sure have never replaced a 202 evap. I have however, replaced fuel coolers, compressors, condensors and expansion valves for leaking. Dye that suck and run it before you assume the evap is bad. If you drop the r/h carpet on the console you can get to the drain tubes and look there for oil.

The 202 dash pad aint hard to pull, pretty much the same as the 124 car.

Hei Joe.... thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, here on Guam the 202 is notoriously known for evap failures. maybe its the weather? maybe its the constant use? but according to all the A/C shops here and the dealer, the Evap on the 202 tends to leak. They've done this operation twice on my car already. Once when the car was new. Once right after warranty. and well... NOW is about time. 4-5year cycle.

if the dash is that easy to remove... I swear, the people here are con-artists or dont know what they are doing. The whole reason why they are charging 4,000 dollars is to remove the dash. Grrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Go to one of our members sites - MBenzNL, at http://members.lycos.nl/mbenz/ . He has completely gutted his 202 and installed a factory AC in his non-AC car as part of installing an AMG interior, and has lots of pics and info. If you email him, hae can probably give you a lot of advice - amazing work on his 202!!!

Damn.

Ok, ship the car to me and I'll do if 1/2 that.

I've not seen a 202 evap fail as of yet, and very few 210's.
