W126 Rear End Gear Lube Change - How Often?
I can't find info on the frequency for rear end gear lube change in my 350 SDL owners manual. Can anyone here help?
Thank you. |

Hi ezrider,
I seem to remember 30,000 miles as a good interval. Do a search and you will also learn to first remove the filler plug before the drain plug. There are aluminum washers that should be replaced also. Torque numbers are also mentioned (I think 45 nm) Regards Reinhard Kreutzer |

Other than changing the rear axle oil at the initial 1000 mile inspection service there is no requirement to change rear axle oil on 86-90 models, however, if you have a limited slip differential, I would recommend a change every 30K miles and be sure to add the proper friction modifier additive to avoid clutch chatter.
For open differentials changing the oil every 60K miles is probably a good idea if you expect to drive the car over 150K miles. Duke |
