Should the idle rotary valve click when battery voltage is applied to it?
I tested mine with straight battery voltage and I did not hear anything. Is that mean it's dead? I know the ones on BMWs clicks when voltage is applied. I am trying to diagnose a high idle problem that happened after a cylinderhead rebuild. Please search the forum for my last posting on this issue.
Thanks, Meza PS. I cleaned it with electric part cleaner and it was fairly clean. Still no click with voltage battery applied.

The valve should rotate if you apply voltage. It might click if it rotates to its stop. If you have cleaned it, then you have it out of the car, and can see the movement.
The rotation angle is proportional to the voltage applied - it is an analog device. To test it adequately, you should use a variable-voltage power supply off the car. This will show up sticky spots. Steve

Problem solved
Thanks Steve. When I tested it, I used aligator clips and the connection for some reason wasn't good and I assumed it was bad. I lubricated the valve with WD-40 after I cleaned it with electric parts cleaner and oiled all the throttle linkages. The valve rotated as you described. The car idles great as before the cylinderhead rebuild and has plenty of power. I believe a combination of a dirty valve and dried/unlubricated linkages (the problem happened after I degreesed washed the engine). Thanks again.
