Very reproducibally, if I floor the accelerator, the car will hesitate, then recover. Revs drop to near zero during hesitation, then recover. The cycle will continue unless I back off the throttle. ? bad misfire vs. fuel problem vs. ? Replaced plugs, wires, fuel filter - no improvement.

Any suggestions appreciated

This sounds like a fuel starvation problem. Start with the simple stuff, i.e. fuel filter (whoops already did that), accumulator, fuel lines, pump function (see if you can get the fuel pressure read), check the vacuum line from the manifold to the fuel pressure regulator. Did this start all of a sudden or has it been getting slowly worse? How many miles on the motor? Anthing else been done to it recently?

Another thread solved this problem with a replacement of the engine temperature sensor after replacing the OVP relay.
